This paper provides information on the type of fisheries subsidies and incentives that the PRC provides to its distant water fishing industry (DWF) and fisheries sector generally. The paper highlights that it is the official policy stance of the Chinese government to assist in the growth, expansion and modernization of its DWF fleet, and this has been achieved through provision of direct subsidies and tax incentives as captured in China’s revolving five-year plans and from unofficial sources.
