19th Joint Steering Committee Meeting of the Japan Promotion Fund concluded
The 19th Joint Steering Committee Meeting of the Japan Promotion Fund (JPF) concluded earlier this week in Honiara.
The meeting brought together a delegation from the Overseas Fishery Cooperation Foundation of Japan (OFCF), representatives of the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) Members, and the FFA Secretariat.
In his opening remarks, FFA Director-General Mr Noan David Pakop welcomed participants and thanked OFCF for its long-standing partnership through the JPF. He highlighted the Fund’s important contribution to supporting sustainable fisheries management, strengthening institutional capacity, and delivering practical development results across the Pacific. He also noted the meeting reviewed progress on projects implemented in 2024–2025, discussed ongoing activities for 2025 – 2026, and considered new project proposals for 2026–2027, with a strong emphasis on results, accountability, and alignment with FFA strategic priorities.

Senior Vice President, Mr Shingo Ota, speaking on behalf of OFCF, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to its partnership with FFA. He noted the upcoming review of the 2017 JPF schedule, which will assess the outcomes of activities supported under the Fund. He also said that the review of the FFA Strategic Plan provides an opportunity to better align JPF support with FFA’s evolving priorities. In addition, he expressed OFCF’s interest in participating in the upcoming FFA Development Partner Symposium in Suva, and reiterated OFCF’s intention to continue strengthening its partnership with FFA Members.
The meeting reflected the shared commitment of FFA, its Members, and OFCF to strengthening cooperation and delivering practical, impactful outcomes in support of sustainable fisheries across the Blue Pacific.
