WHAT WE DO

Economic and Social Development

Trade and Market Access

Market access issues and challenges

In this unit, we give our Members technical support and advice about market access issues and challenges. Our aim is to make sure our Members can maintain and increase their access to global markets.

For both EU and non-EU markets (the US, China and others), we focus on two particular aspects of market access:

  1. certifying fish as food
  2. certifying fish as a legal resource.

Our members also receive advice about:

  • relevant developments in international trade policy and economic co-operation frameworks
  • how to advance their individual and collective fisheries interests in trade policy and economic partnership negotiations.

For capacity building, our team conducts regional and in-country training, gives technical support on specific market challenges, and helps review and develop standards and regulations.

Our regular trade and industry reports include Fisheries Trade and Industry News and Fisheries Economic Indicators.

Learn more about the FFA team

We are governed by our members through the Forum Fisheries Committee (FFC). Our executive team guides the work of the Secretariat working with staff to develop high-level policy advice, governance and strategic support for FFC and its Members. Our organisation is structured to deliver tuna fisheries trade and market access, development and operations. Learn more →
