Recognizing the significant risks fisheries observers face, the Regional Observer Compensation Scheme (OCS) has been fully established and is operational, serving as a crucial safety net for Pacific Islands Regional Fisheries Observers (PIRFO). This scheme guarantees comprehensive insurance, providing timely compensation in the event of injury, illness, or death from the time observer leaves his/her home to join the vessel and vice versa.
